The Geekiest Headwear You Need

Most of us never outgrow the desire to slip on a mask or other piece of headgear and become someone else for awhile. Play is something everyone enjoys, from kids to adults.

Fortunately for the “older set,” the latest offerings are equal parts fun and tech savvy. If you’re looking for a great way to pass the summer, you aren’t going to want to miss out on these must-buys for kids (and kids at heart).

If you’re the “try before you buy” type, though, think twice before trying on your friend’s Google Glass or a Hulk mask at the store. You’ve also never too old for head lice, which can plague just about anyone.

Head lice may not have quite the stigma it used to, but that doesn’t make it any easier to bear. Keep sanitation a priority before indulging in one of these must-have treats.

1. Google Glass

This one’s pretty obvious, but it’s still at the top of the list for many geeks. The good news is that trial runs are complete, which means many of the bugs have been worked out. If you can get your hands on Google Glass this summer, it’s worth checking out.

2. Horse Head Mask

This is a meme come to life, and not just any horse mask will do. If you want to inject some play into your daily grind, scare your roommate, or give your kid the ultimate alter ego, pick up the cult-like and original mask for under $30. However, be careful about sharing, because you never know who else has a horse fetish.

3. Star Trek contact lenses

Technically not “headware,” these belong to part of your face and simply must be included on any geek-laden list. You don’t have to wait for Halloween to don these Star Trek-themed contacts. They’re sure to be a winner at just about any convention, club, or other outing where you can let your inner geek shine.

4. Geeky hats

From Game of Thrones to Star Wars, keep your cool this summer by picking up a baseball hat (and keeping it clean) that proudly shows your affiliation. ’Tis the season for keeping your pale geeky complexion up to snuff, and you need all the help you can get.

5. Hobbit headwear

If baseball and trucker hats just aren’t your thing, delve into the world of Etsy, where artisans are whipping up Hobbit-inspired headwear by the droves. How about Thranduil’s crown to start?

Whether you’re more into the high tech gadgets or simply want to dress up your wardrobe geek style, there’s something for everyone.
